Would you like to volunteer?

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Meals on Wheels organisation.

Volunteers are always needed and it's easy to apply. Simply call our Manager Julie,  who will arrange an interview.

Call 0269 212205 to contact Julie.

There are some basic rules which are all designed to protect the clients. These include new volunteers being asked to supply references and agreeing to a police check.

New volunteers undertake an induction process which involves a short training session with the Manager and "on the job" training with an experienced volunteer.

Most deliveries are done in pairs- Driver and "Jockey". Delivery drivers use their own vehicle. There is a small reimbursement available for the use of your vehicle. Volunteer's vehicles are covered by our special insurance program.

Time commitment is usually about an hour and a half per delivery and volunteers can be rostered a day per week or per month. That commitment is up to the volunteer.

Other ways volunteers can help include nominating and election to the local management committee or assisting with new services such as the Terrace on Tarcutta social centre.

Our volunteers experience the satisfaction of knowing they are providing a vital service to the community. They can make new friends, learn new skills and take pride in belonging to a well trusted and well known community organisation.

I have been a volunteer for two years and enjoy having a chat with all our clients. It's a rewarding experience

I volunteer every week. I like meeting all our clients and would encourage others to consider becoming a volunteer.

I enjoy doing Meals on Wheels, meeting terrific clients - I always feel appreciated

Delivering meals on wheels brightens my day. I only work for a couple of hours one day a month and I enjoy catching up with the clients.
